Description
Now for the first time: An historical novel about the life of Betsie Ten Boom - the sister of Corrie. The inspiring story of their family was told in the Billy Graham movie "The Hiding Place". Betsie, Corrie, and their father Casper were individually honored by the state of Israel - as "Righteous Among the Nations" This incredible family of righteous gentiles are honored in Yad Vashem. This moving story is a wonderful way to honor the life of Betsie - who died in Ravensbruck Concentration camp just a few days before Christmas. As a young girl in the Netherlands, Betsie dreamed of a quite tranquil life, one day marrying a handsome man and growing old as a wife and mother. But a medical condition snatched that dream from her at an early age and now she can only watch and wonder as others find love, marry, and move away. In response, Betsie devotes herself to a life of faith in God and hard work. By middle age, she is settled in the routine of a single woman, resigned to a comfortable but solitary future. Then the German army crosses the border. At first the Germans don't seem so bad. They arrive with money to spend and eagerly purchase everything in the shops and stores. But ever so slowly they tighten the reins on private life - imposing a nightly curfew, rationing food, and limiting access to radio and telephones. Then they turn against the Jews. When Nazi soldiers take away a Jewish neighbor, Betsie only watches, but when they return for the shop owner across the street, she responds by finding a place for him to hide and soon she is plunged into a desperate attempt to shelter as many Jews as possible from the horrors of the Holocaust. Then one day Jan Vogel comes to the shop under the guise of asking for help. Vogel, however, is an informant and what he tells the German Gestapo lands Betsie and her family in prison. How she, who fought to save the lives of others, is in a struggle to save her own. - from Amzon
